About Harnett County

Harnett County’s strong roots date back to its founding in 1855. Named after Cornelius Harnett, a Revolutionary War soldier and a delegate of the Continental Congress, the county has flourished for decades as an epicenter of agriculture and has even played a pivotal role in history as the site of one of the last battles of the Civil War.

Today, Harnett is one of the fastest growing counties in North Carolina. While agriculture is still a vital part of who we are, there is also so much more to our story. From the wealth of natural resources here perfect for a wide variety of outdoor recreation to our unique museums, historical places and quaint small towns. What’s more, our agricultural heritage means that we’re also home to some of the most fascinating and eye-opening agritourism experiences in the entire state.

Harnett continues to surprise, delight and give visitors from all over several ways to discover a memorable travel story of their very own.
